How We Grew a Plumbing & HVAC Site Visitors From 150 to 1,400 Monthly Organic

Organic traffic climbed from roughly 150 to over 1,400 monthly visitors, a 9x increase that turned a stagnant local site into a steady source of plumbing and HVAC service calls.

Ahrefs: The Surge

Real Growth · Real Numbers

For nearly a year the site sat flat near 150 organic visits a month. Once the foundation was rebuilt and the content engine started compounding, traffic broke out sharply, rising from roughly 150 to more than 1,400 monthly visits, with the steepest breakout happening over roughly four months and no paid spend behind it.

The Situation

Project Overview

The client is a local plumbing and HVAC company that depends on inbound service calls to fill its technicians' schedules. Despite years online, the site barely registered in search, hovering around 150 organic visits a month and buried on page two or three for the exact "plumber near me" and "AC repair" searches its customers were typing every day.

The problem wasn't demand. It was visibility. The site lacked the service-and-location pages, technical health, and topical authority Google needs to trust a local business for high-intent queries. We rebuilt that foundation and engineered a content system targeting every service the company offered in every city it served.

The Challenge

A Local Site Stuck in Page-Two Obscurity

The site generated almost no organic traffic despite operating in a market with strong, consistent search demand. A handful of thin pages tried to cover dozens of services across multiple cities, so Google had nothing specific to rank for queries like "water heater repair" or "furnace replacement" in any given town.

Technical issues, weak internal linking, and a near-total absence of local authority signals kept the few existing pages from ranking. The challenge wasn't a penalty to recover from. It was building the relevance and trust the site never had, so it could finally compete for the searches that turn into booked jobs.

The Approach

How We Drove the Growth

Built a Service-and-Location Content Engine

We mapped every service against every city served and built a dedicated, genuinely useful page for each high-value combination: drain cleaning, AC repair, furnace installation, and water heater replacement, town by town. That gave Google a specific result to rank for hundreds of "service + location" searches.

Fixed the Technical and Local SEO Foundation

We resolved indexing and site-structure issues, tightened internal linking so authority flowed to the money pages, improved page speed and mobile experience, and implemented local-business and service schema, aligned with a consistent Google Business Profile.

Earned Topical Authority and Local Links

We supported the service pages with helpful guides, FAQs, and seasonal advice, then paired that with targeted local link building and citations from relevant, reputable sources. That built the off-page credibility a local contractor needs to outrank established competitors.

Captured High-Intent Demand

As the service-and-city pages began ranking for emergency repairs, replacements, and "near me" queries with clear buying intent, the gains compounded into the sharp traffic surge, sending a growing stream of ready-to-book homeowners to the site.
